Best Jeanist: Kamenashi, Koda win fourth [19/10/09]:

The 26th annual Best Jeanist awards were presented on Sunday. For the fourth consecutive year, KAT-TUN member Kazuya Kamenashi and singer Kumi Koda were voted #1 in the public selection category.

More than 70,000 votes were counted between October of last year and this past August. Kamenashi won another clear victory with almost 26,000 votes, while Arashi's Masaki Aiba came in second with about 8,500 votes. Koda, on the other hand, received 7,000 votes to beat aiko (5,500 votes).

This gives both Koda and Kamenashi a chance to win their fifth awards next year, which will place them in the "hall of fame" and remove them from future ballots. So far, Takuya Kimura, Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, and Ayumi Hamasaki have been put in the hall of fame.

For the committee selection awards, the winners were Miyuki Hatoyama (the wife of Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama), DAIGO, and the group SPEED. In the international category, which was established last year, Taiwanese actor Jerry Yan received the award.

Kamenashi Kazuya Begins ‘DREAM BOYS’! Yamapi and Ryo-chan Recovering [9/9/2009]:

The musical ‘DREAM BOYS’, featuring KAT-TUN member Kamenashi Kazuya (23) as the lead actor, has finally started at the Imperial Garden Theater in Marunouchi, Tokyo.

The popular musical series started in 2004, and from then on it has become an annual event. Alongside Kamenashi, who has appeared in every one of the productions, KANJANI∞ members Shibuya Subaru (27) and Tegoshi Yuya (21) will also participate. Kamenashi seemed pleased with the cast choices. “We have lots of big name members in the cast. The series have evolved over the years, and for this production we’re surely going to have a strong impact on the audience like never before.” During the show, Kamenashi broke records by showing the dynamic ‘flying’ sequence 18 times for a total of 24 minutes. The crowd was visibly awed.

Tegoshi commented about fellow NEWS members Yamashita Tomohisa a.k.a. Yama-P (24) and Nishikido Ryo a.k.a. Ryo-chan (24) who had both come down with the flu. “I’m sure they’ll come back soon. As for ME, I’m totally healthy!” The theater itself was on ‘high alert’, so the main cast members were all examined by doctors beforehand, and the nearly 200 staff personnel wore flu masks. At the backstage entrance visitors were asked to put on masks and use hand disinfectants.

All the tickets for all the dates of the musical had sold out on the first day they had been made available. The three young Johnny’s groups, KAT-TUN, NEWS, and KANJANI∞ had proved yet again their continuing popularity and forward momentum.

These are of Kame from the latest Pop Eye mag! Although this particular mag has always had a reputation of taking the most amazing and "eye popping" photos of celebs, these recent shots of Kame still surprised me, because it has been a while since I last saw him with a cigarette in his mouth!
Even though Kame is fully clothed in these latest shots...unlike for previous issues of the mag when he revealed more skin, and even a shot of his undies showing! He still looks just as kakkoi & sexy in these recent ones, don't you agree?

Nakama replacing red jersey with yukata [July 31st, 2009]:

On Thursday, actress Nakama Yukie (29) and KAT-TUN’s Kamenashi Kazuya (23) attended a nice little event to thank about 1000 fans for the big success of their movie "Gokusen: The Movie".

The atmosphere was like that of a small summer night festival and as promised last time, Nakama didn’t appear wearing her trademark red jersey from the series again. Instead both of them came dressed in two beautiful yukatas, adding even more to the festival-like mood. Apparently even Kamenashi himself got wowed by Nakama’s yukata appearance, "What a beautiful oneesan!, I thought."

Since the release on the 11th this month, Gokusen already made more than 2 billion yen in box office takings. In order to thank their fans, both actors started to visit 5 major cities and attend a total of 9 greeting since the 28th. Each of the events will give 1000 fans the chance to see their stars up-close, accordingly naming it the "5-9-1000" campaign. Nakama once again tried to appeal to more possible future moviegoers, "Please spend the summer together with Gokusen."

'Gokusen: the movie' box office earnings report!

Here's some updates on the progress of Gokusen: the movie in the box office earnings...

The movie is currently in #75 place on the top 100 for the 'Most Grossed Movie in its Opening Weekend' of all-time in Japan list earning $5,064,634 (US dollars) for its opening weekend, and $11,723,645 in total so far.

[News] 'Gokusen' movie earns half a billion in opening weekend

[News] 'Gokusen' movie earns half a billion in opening weekend [July 13, 2009]:

The highly anticipated 'Gokusen: The Movie' opened on 409 screens in Japan this past weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, more than 402,000 fans saw the film in theaters, earning "Gokusen" close to 490 million yen.

According to a statement by distributor Toho on Monday, the movie is projected to gross more than 4 billion yen by the end of its run.

In comparison, the 'ROOKIES' movie opened several weeks ago on 428 screens, and it earned over 1.2 billion yen in its first two days.

Well, some say the box office earnings so far for the movie is disappointing considering the star-studded cast...but I think it's still a good figure, after all, this figure is only for its premier weekend screening.
I think you have to consider the story also, and whether or not it generates the kind of hype and excitement it is expected to have...especially since Gokusen is a drama that has a plotline and concept that's been recycled over and over again for 3 seasons straight...so some people aren't as excited about the movie.
But overall, the movie has only been released for 5 days so far, and 490 million in just the first 2 days is still fairly good...hopefully it'll reach Toho's desired figure by the end of its run.

Kamenashi Whispers and Mesmerizes Audience [July 10, 2009]:

Recently KAT-TUN member Kamenashi Kazuya appeared at the ‘Premium’ preview event of the movie ‘ごくせん THE MOVIE / Gokusen THE MOVIE’.

The star-studded cast, including fellow Johnny’s members of Kamenashi, all lined up on stage and each introduced themselves.

Kamenashi was decked out in a grey suit, and the moment he held the microphone many adoring fans started to scream with excitement.

Kamenashi quickly took control of the situation by first placing his index finger to his lips and saying “Shhh…”

He then continued by whispering in a sexy voice “Look, I’m talking right now…” The hypnotized crowd soon quieted down. Asked about once again playing ‘Odagiri Ryu’ after a four year break, Kamenashi commented “I hope I acted like the ‘same’ Odagri.”
