Fans Concerned about Ueda Tatsuya’s Message [Sept 11, 2009]:

Each week the KAT-TUN members take turns sending messages to their fans. This week it was Ueda Tatsuya’s turn.
But for this message, his usual happy-go-lucky and energetic character was nowhere to be seen...

“Hello everyone.
A year has past since I formed my band. I received a phone call congratulating me for the band’s first anniversary♪
It made me become more buoyant! It’s good to have close friends.
Thanks for the power boost.

Recently there were a few depressing incidents, and in some cases I had to apologize because I messed up and caused trouble for everybody. But I realized that I should think more positively, work harder, and have a good time with everyone.”

What did he have to apologize for? There are growing speculations among fans here in Japan. Although we do not know what exactly happened, we hope he’ll once again show his dazzling smile to everyone!

13th Nikkan Sports Drama Awards results

here are the results from the notoriously fan-based Nikkan Sports Drama Awards recently held for Spring (April-June in japan)
Ueda's Konkatsu was nominated in most of the main categories...

Best Drama:
1. Smile (2649 votes)
2. Mr Brain (1944 votes)
3. The Quiz Show (1805 votes)
4. Konkatsu (1370 votes)
5. Boss (1342 votes)

For the other categories, the lead actor Nakai Masahiro was voted #4 for 'best actor' with 1409 votes, Ueto Aya was voted #3 for 'best actress' with 1645 votes & Shaku Yumiko voted #4 for 'best supporting actress' with 649 votes...sadly though, Ueda didn't win any awards, and the drama wasn't nominated in the 'best supporting actor' category.

"Konkatsu!" falls to lowest ratings ever for "Getsu 9" drama [May 8, 2009]:

Viewership numbers for television dramas have been dropping across the board in recent years, but on Thursday they hit a new low for Fuji TV when the ratings for "Konkatsu!" were revealed.

The series, which stars Masahiro Nakai (of SMAP) and Aya Ueto, had its third episode aired on Monday. Ratings in the Kanto region amounted to just 9.4%, marking the worst ever performance for a show in Fuji TV's flagship "Getsu 9" time slot (Monday 9:00pm) since it was established in the late '80s.

Last season's "Voice," which starred Eita, dipped as low as 10.2% in its 9th episode. However, no "Getsu 9" series has fallen to single digits before now.

"Konkatsu!" started out at 16.3% for its premiere but dropped sharply to 11.2% for the second episode. Part of the decline may have resulted from the recent arrest of fellow SMAP member Tsuyoshi Kusanagi. The group's show "SMAP x SMAP" (which goes on the air right after the "Getsu 9" time slot) also saw a significant drop last week after the arrest, and this past Monday it fell further to 11.2%, its worst ratings so far this year.

This is very disappointing, not only because of the drop in ratings, but what's sad is that the cause of the dramatic drop could very well be due to lead actor Masahiro's fellow bandmate Kusanagi's embarrassing incident recently...it's upsetting to know that the entire group are being affected by 1 member's mistake and act of public stupidity, which, Kusanagi insisted he was drunk at the time and has publicly apologized for the incident.
Hopefully the ratings for the drama (and SMAP's show) will eventually improve as the hype surrounding the scandal dies down.

Sorry for posting such negative news here, all the while, this place has been about the positives, celebrating KAT-TUN and all their achievements...but as we all know, the weather differs and at times, can be unpredictable.

Konkatsu! ep 1 rating

The first episode of the series was aired on April 20th and attracted ratings of 16.3%, which is a very strong start to the drama...hope the ratings will remain steady.

I personally am looking forward to this, it sounds interesting, and apart from Ueda of course, the drama also stars Ueto Aya; who I like also.

After the play is finished, there's a person who lifts the tempo of the conversation, that's a good guy, things like that; also, I receive various advices. That’s really fun and pleasant.
Everyone treats the two of us dearly and teach us various things.
As the play is not the same everyday, every time, every time, I get nervous and excited.

Because when I come back home and eat meals alone I feel lonely

Like that, the cast gather together and talk about different things.

Wonderful company
Although as the end comes it feels desolate
For this reason, I’m doing my best to make every single time special!!

Although there are mortifying feelings, unpleasant feelings, whenever something happens I get encouraged to do my best by everyone!

Now my last work is April’s drama starred by Nakai Masahiro, “Konkatsu!”
I got the privilege of appear in it!!

Perhaps lately I’ve been going my way with plays and various related things, anyway, to be good to the people on my surroundings I’ll do my best!!

The road of plays has just begun, but as a new one has been opened, I want to do my best with all my might.

'Duet' mag 2009 translations [Ueda]

starts in March, I’m facing it and concentrating on the feelings. I think I want to do music that sounds like me. In a play, there are things that go across through vocal performance and conversely there are parts similar to acting and a song’s power of expression. That’s why I think it’s a great experience. I’m also looking forward to it myself.
